On June 12, 2017, Shane Guffogg’s, “As of Today #3″ oil on canvas, h: 60 x w: 80” inches, (2016), sold for $285,000.00 at Cornette de Saint CYR, (Maison De Ventes Aux Encheres) Paris auction. All the elements were just right, it was a perfect auction for a simply magnificent painting. Guffogg is no stranger to Paris auctions, his “Amor Fati #1”, met a previous high in Cannes, (August 15, 2016), where La Gazzette Drouot Magazine named him “Un Artiste Atypique”, for not only a record high but for also making the top of the “Best Sales” list.
2017 has proved to be a good year for Guffogg. Starting with,”The Observer is the Observed”- global tour (consisting of 73 artworks, spanning 27 years of the artists career) moved from the Academy of Fine Arts Museum, St Petersburg, Russia to Baku’s, Gallery of the Museum Center Azerbaijan. Guffogg received much praise in Baku. His paintings, often referred to as “wordless poems” were appauded by Azeri art-world.
And last month, (May 12th) opened Shane Guffogg – “Dance of Thought”, at Manhattan Beach Art Center, Manhattan Beach, California. This was another solo exhibition consisting of 28 works; oil paintings, pastels, Murano glass and Carrara marble sculpture. This was Guffogg’s newest body of work, dating from 2015 to 2017. The Los Angeles art scene was thrilled to get the artist back for an exhibition on it’s home turf.
