The Roman poet, Horace, first wrote about it in the “First Book of Letters” (20 BCE). Immanuel Kant brought it to our attention, in his essay, “Answering the Question: What Is Enlightenment?” (1784).
200 years later, Michel Foucault wrote, “What is Enlightenment?” (1984). Almost twenty years later, Jean-Claude Vuillemin wrote, “The Baroque Episteme: the Word and the Thing” (2013). It didn’t take long for Guffogg to summon us with his paintings, “Supere Aude #1“, and “Sapere Aude #2” (2016) where he dangles the ribbon before our eyes.
